This photographic exhibition offers a sensitive and documentary record of the experiences lived during the fieldwork activities of the Marimba project, which is dedicated to promoting musical production in Angola, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, and Timor-Leste.
Visitors will be able to view around 30 images that highlight the roots and ancestry of local communities, taking the audience on a journey through diverse cultural realities — many of which remain underrepresented in Europe. The photographs were captured by different authors over three years of travel across the regions involved, resulting in a visual compilation that portrays elements of daily life, ethnography, and cultural expressions from each location.
The Marimba project is a transnational initiative funded by the European Union and co-financed and managed by Camões – Institute for Cooperation and Language. In addition to the photographic documentation, the project also includes activities such as research, digitization, and the promotion of music in the four participating countries.
Its goal is to contribute to the recovery of local cultural identities and the international distribution of phonographic works, while also fostering the socio-economic inclusion of women and the sustainability of professionals in the music sector.
