The traveling exhibition Marimba arrives in Lisbon on September 11
Marimba is a photographic exhibition offering a sensitive and documentary perspective on the experiences lived during the fieldwork activities of the project bearing the same name.
Visitors will be able to view around thirty revealing images that showcase the roots and ancestry of peoples from the countries involved in the Marimba project. The exhibition takes the audience on a journey to remote lands and exotic cultures, sharing experiences of diverse realities, some of which remain little known in Europe.
About the Marimba Project
The Marimba project aims to valorize musical production in Angola, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, and Timor-Leste through research, digitization, and promotion. It also supports the international distribution of phonographic products and affiliated artists, contributing to the recovery and dissemination of the cultural identity of the involved countries and regions.
Additionally, the project promotes the socio-economic inclusion of women and the sustainability of stakeholders in the music sector.
This unprecedented initiative focuses on employability, activation, and research in the field of music across these four countries, under the motto:
“Music, intangible heritage.”
As a transnational project, the main platform for Marimba’s visibility and communication is digital, through which ongoing project activities are collaboratively disseminated with an active presence in each participating country.
Three years of travel
Over the last three years, many trips have been made to the targeted territories, resulting in the compilation of a memorable series of photographs now featured in the exhibition.
Captured by various authors, the images depict the realities of local cultures visited, illustrating their ethnography and everyday life.
This is a must-see exhibition, promoted as part of an initiative funded by the European Union and co-financed and managed by Camões, I.P.
