A project dedicated to the international recognition of the music from PALOP countries (Portuguese-speaking African Countries) and Timor-Leste takes over the Coliseu dos Recreios in a night devoted to Guinean sounds.
The perhaps still too little-known music of Guinea-Bissau will take center stage during a gala night at the Coliseu dos Recreios in Lisbon. This event is organized by Marimba, a project aimed at "promoting employment and income-generating activities in the cultural sector" and "internationally showcasing the musical production of Angola, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, and Timor-Leste."
With renowned musicians from the participating countries as ambassadors—such as Angolans Paulo Flores and Nástio Mosquito, Guineans Manecas Costa and Patche Di Rima, Mozambican Stewart Sukuma, and Timorese Denilson Junior—the project also seeks to create numerous jobs, focusing on women to address gender imbalances in the music scene of these countries. Women will also take center stage at this event, highlighting a musical culture, Guinean in this case, where women play a pivotal role. Cultural organizations featuring women who come together to express their opinions through music and dance will also be represented.
The performances boast an outstanding lineup, featuring some of the biggest names in Guinean music. Among them is Patche Di Rima, described as "the greatest singer in Guinea-Bissau today," who will also serve as co-host of the evening alongside singer and activist Karyna Gomes. The program also includes bands like Memu Sunhu, Mamba Negra, and Jery Bidan, the Associação Cultural Netos do Bandim, and singers Ammy Injai and Eneida Marta. Eneida Marta is considered one of the leading ambassadors of Guinean music and culture internationally.
