Promoting connections between artists from different corners of the world who share Portuguese as their official language, the Zona Mundi Festival begins this Wednesday (5) at 6 p.m. at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MAC), with the opening panel "Marimba: A Network Articulation of Cultural Exchange Between Portuguese-Speaking Countries," and runs until next Sunday (9) in Salvador. The project is in its 9th edition and is recognized as a space for celebration and artistic exchange between Brazil, Portuguese-speaking countries, and Iberian countries.
This Thursday (6), the Sala Nilda Spencer will host the festival's panels from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., discussing various perspectives on national artistic production and technology. The second day of the festival will also feature Business Rounds at Sala Nelson Maleiro. During each edition of Zona Mundi, open and free calls are made for musicians to connect with players in the music industry. Through applications for the music business rounds, artists have the opportunity to network, showcase their work, and strengthen connections.
Next, the Museum of Modern Art of Bahia (MAM) will host the Zona Mundi Festival for one of the most anticipated moments of the project: visual and sound performances. Friday night (7) will feature performances by Avuá, Indi Mateta (AO), Josyara, and SIWO (MZ) starting at 6 p.m. Tickets are R$ 20 (half-price) and R$ 40 (full price).
On Saturday (8), the program starts at 10:30 a.m. with Hugo Arán, Martins, Patche Di Rima, and Pedro Pondé, who invites Bahian artists Clariana and Udi to the stage to keep the night lively. Tickets for the day are R$ 30 (half-price) and R$ 60 (full price), and access for both days can be purchased on the website.
On Sunday (9), the festival's musical program is free and will conclude Zona Mundi 2024. The event will take place at the Parque da Cidade Amphitheater, celebrating multiculturalism and its connections. The event is scheduled for 11 a.m. and will feature artists like Jorge Mulumba (AO), with guests Luizinho, DuJêje, Luana Flores, Marina Tusett (ESP), Neila Khadi, Renata Bastos, and Vitrolab on stage.
The festival is supported by the 2023 Calendar of Artistic Events grant, organized by FUNARTE (National Arts Foundation), and the Gregórios grant, organized by FGM and the City Hall of Salvador, through the Paulo Gustavo Law. Zona Mundi 2024 is partnered with and co-produced by the MARIMBA project, a cultural association based in Portugal and Mozambique, which will also launch a branch during the 2024 program.
