Zona Mundi – Electronic Circuit of Sound and Image
One of Bahia’s most celebrated festivals, Zona Mundi, is hosting its 9th edition from this Wednesday (June 5) through Sunday (June 9), with events spread across the Museum of Contemporary Art (MAC), Gregório de Matos Foundation (FGM), Museum of Modern Art of Bahia (MAM), and Parque da Cidade.
This year, the agenda celebrates cultural diversity and artistic exchange between Brazil, Portuguese-speaking countries, and Iberian nations. To achieve this, Zona Mundi 2024 presents an international lineup featuring artists such as Patche Di Rima (Guinea-Bissau), Siwo (Mozambique), Indira Mateta and Jorge Mulumba (Angola), as well as Hugo Arán and Marina Tuset (Spain).
Notable Brazilian artists and groups from the contemporary scene, such as ÀVUÀ (SP), Bahia’s own Josyara and Pedro Pondé, Pernambuco’s Martins, and Paraíba’s Luana Flores (Nordeste Futurista), will also bring their vibrant and authentic performances to the stage.
Beyond Music
The event kicks off this Wednesday (June 5) at the MAC, with an opening panel hosted by MARIMBA, a cultural association based in Portugal and Mozambique. The theme is “A Network Articulation of Cultural Exchange between Portuguese-Speaking Countries”. This public panel runs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
On Thursday (June 6), Zona Mundi moves to Barroquinha at the Gregório de Matos Foundation, offering a full day of activities, including Business Rounds, a Hacklab, Panels, and the “Vírus” Performance. The schedule starts at 10 a.m. and runs until 6 p.m., featuring both open and closed events.
On Friday (June 7) and Saturday (June 8), the Festival heads to the MAM, presenting its highly anticipated visual and sound performances at Praça Maestro Letieres Leite, in the museum courtyard. Over these two days, artists from Bahia, like Pedro Pondé, and from around the world will come together, performing against the stunning backdrop of the Baía de Todos os Santos.
A Grand Finale
Closing the program on Sunday (June 9), the amphitheater at Parque da Cidade will host a celebration of cultural diversity and the convergence of artistic languages. This space will transcend boundaries and foster connections with events running from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The complete and detailed program is available on the official website, www.zonamundi.com.br, where tickets can also be reserved.
