In a celebration of Black diasporas and sound system culture, AFROPUNK Brasil has announced an unprecedented collaboration between legendary Jamaican artist Sister Nancy and Brazilian group BaianaSystem.
This exclusive performance, created especially for the festival, will be one of the highlights of the fifth edition of AFROPUNK Brasil, taking place on November 8 and 9, 2025, at the Parque de Exposições in Salvador, Bahia.
Recognized worldwide for her powerful voice and for being a pioneer in Jamaican dancehall, Sister Nancy will perform in Bahia for the first time. Her iconic track “Bam Bam” will be reimagined alongside one of Brazil’s most representative contemporary music groups.
BaianaSystem, known for their unique fusion of Bahian guitar, dub, reggae, and Afro-Brazilian rhythms, returns to AFROPUNK for another historic collaboration. In 2023, the group shared the stage with Patche Di Rima and Noite e Dia. This time, the dialogue will be with one of the foundational voices of the genre that helped shape their sound.
“It’s a celebration of what shaped us—what still inspires us today. It’s about ancestry, but also about the future,” says Russo Passapusso, lead singer of BaianaSystem.
According to Roberto Barreto, guitarist and co-founder of the group, “Sister Nancy’s voice has always been with us, even before we knew it. This show is a return to our starting point—and a leap toward what’s still to come.”
The collaborative performance was conceived by the curatorial team at IDW, the agency behind AFROPUNK in Brazil, and underscores the festival’s commitment to building bridges between cultures, generations, and geographies. More than a musical show, the performance is a political and aesthetic statement around Afro-diasporic heritage.
In addition to the Sister Nancy and BaianaSystem collaboration, the AFROPUNK Brasil 2025 lineup includes Jorja Smith, BK’, Péricles, Liniker, **ÀTTØØ
