Prime Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva Highlights the Importance of Measuring the Impact of Major Events Like AME
Last night, following the opening of another edition of the Atlantic Music Expo (AME) in Praia, Prime Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva emphasized the importance of measuring the impact of major events like AME—not only in economic terms but also in terms of Cape Verde’s international visibility.
According to Correia e Silva, AME, along with the Kriol Jazz Festival, is one of the country’s largest and most significant cultural and musical events, held in the city of Praia. These events have had a strong impact on the economy and on projecting the archipelago internationally, which is why it is essential to assess their overall impact.
“They told me an impact study is going to be conducted. Because the hotels are full, restaurants and entertainment venues are bustling. That means economic activity. Then there’s the movement of people, the consumption. And more than that, it’s the international projection of Cape Verde’s image,” he explained.
“This is yet another major cultural and musical event. AME is the largest event in Cape Verde’s music industry. I hope it’s a success, as it has been, with great participation, lots of music, conferences, and workshops,” he added, highlighting the event’s role as a platform for national artists, both emerging and established, to gain visibility.
The presence of international media was also pointed out by Correia e Silva as one of the event’s major strengths.
In addition to speeches, the opening of AME 2025 also featured performances by young talents and a surprise appearance by singer Dino d’Santiago.
The Atlantic Music Expo (AME) 2025, dubbed “the largest transatlantic music fair,” will take place from April 7 to 10 in the capital city.
For its 11th edition, 23 artists have been selected.
Cape Verdean artists include: Ary Kueka, Dieg, Fábio Ramos, Zuleika, Queency Barbosa, Yacine Rosa, Leroy Pinto, CJ Patronato, Tereza Fernandes, and Eliana Rosa.
On the international front, AME 2025 will feature renowned artists from various parts of the world, including Isabel Novela (Mozambique), Maria Siga (Senegal), Roberta Campos (Brazil), Rumba de Bodas (Italy), Sahad (Senegal), Tasuta N’Iman (Morocco), Throes & The Shine (Angola/Portugal), Karyna Gomes (Guinea-Bissau), Raquel (Spain), and Fattu Djakité (Guinea-Bissau).
The event will also include performances by DJs Streladuh, Muleki, and Oleg.
