About this training

Marimba: 2nd phase Advanced training for transcription and restoration of analog audio

Marimba promotes a training project created in conjunction with the Camões Institute and which aims to provide trainees with skills in the field of music
Training program starts in Angola and Mozambique.
Marimba is supported by PROCULTURA, an action of the PALOP–TL and EU program, financed by the European Union, co-financed and managed by Camões I.P., which aims to promote employment and income-generating activities in the cultural sector of PALOP and Timor- East.

The project aims to value musical production in Angola, Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau and Timor-Leste, through research, digitalization, promotion and international distribution, contributing to the recovery of cultural identity, its dissemination and reinforcement, inclusion and sustainability of sector agents.

In this context, an ambitious training program is being launched in Angola:
- 1st to 5th April and from 8th to 11th April 20024 the introduction to practical training;
- From May 20th to 22th, 2024 practical training.
And Mozambique:
- 18 to 22 March and from 25 to 28 March 2024 the introduction to practical training;
- From May 15nd to 17th, 2024 practical training.

The training will be developed in modules that aim to equip trainees with tools that allow them not only to record, digitize and archive this heritage, but also to preserve and disseminate it to future generations.

Likewise, another important part of the training will provide trainees with technical knowledge in terms of musical creation and poetic expression, as well as offering them relevant information about the functioning of the music industry in order to encourage the creation of new jobs.

The training program consists of nine theoretical-practical training modules:

- Module I - Identification of analog audio formats;
- Module 2 - Assessment, cleaning and conditioning of physical supports;
- Module 3 - Transcription equipment;
- Module 4 - Transcription, metadata and archiving process;
- Module 5 - Introduction to audio restoration processes
- Module 6 - Introduction to iZotope RX
- Module 7 - iZotope RX Advanced Tools, Part I
- Module 8 - iZotope RX Advanced Tools, Part II
- Module 9 - Audio mastering

João Brandão and Miguel dos Estudios Arda will be the training coordinators and trainers.

Registration must be made at the secretariats of Radio Nacional de Angola and Rádio Moçambique, as well as at the secretariats of CEARTE and ECA or here on the Marimba platform.
